Winery Sales Representative
Overview
CCV is looking for a Winery Sales Representative. A Winery Sales Representative will serve as the crucial link between a winery and its customers, distributors, retailers, and restaurants. This role is responsible for promoting and selling the winery’s products, building strong relationships in the market, increasing brand awareness, and ensuring customer satisfaction. The position often requires travel, excellent communication skills, and a deep appreciation for wine and the winemaking process.
Primary Responsibilities

Event Coordination and Management

Prepare and deliver persuasive sales presentations and tastings to potential clients, tailoring messaging to the audience and highlighting key selling points.

Identify and pursue new sales opportunities with wholesale accounts, retailers, restaurants, and distributors.

Meet or exceed sales targets and quotas as set by the winery management.

Develop and maintain strong, long-term relationships with existing clients and prospects.

Negotiate contracts, pricing, and delivery terms with buyers and partners.
Market Research and Analysis

Conduct market research to identify emerging trends, competitor products, and pricing strategies.

Monitor and report on the effectiveness of sales strategies and promotional campaigns.

Gather customer feedback and communicate insights to the production and marketing teams.
Product Knowledge and Promotion

Develop a deep understanding of the winery’s product range including grape varieties, production methods, vintages, and tasting notes.

Represent the winery at industry events, trade shows, festivals, and wine tastings.

Educate clients and consumers on wine selection, food and wine pairings, and proper wine service.

Assist with the planning and execution of promotional events, dinners, and private tastings.
Account Management

Maintain detailed records of customer interactions, orders, and sales activity.

Ensure timely fulfillment of orders and resolve any issues related to product delivery or quality.

Follow up with customers post-sale to ensure satisfaction and foster repeat business.
Reporting

Prepare regular sales reports and forecasts for management.

Analyze sales metrics to inform strategy and identify areas for improvement.

Track expenses and submit timely reports for reimbursements.
Qualifications and Experience

Wine Knowledge: Certification or coursework in wine (WSET, Court of Master Sommeliers, etc.) is a strong asset, but not required. Demonstrated passion and interest in wine and winemaking processes.

Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel regularly.

Typical Work Environment
The role of a Winery Sales Representative is dynamic, combining time spent in the field meeting with clients, managing and attending events, and conducting tastings, with office-based tasks such as account management and reporting. Travel is a significant part of the job, and flexibility in working hours, including evenings and weekends for events—is often required.

Sample Day-to-Day Responsibilities

Travelling to meet with restaurant and retail accounts to present the winery’s product lineup.

Collaborating with the marketing team to coordinate promotional initiatives.

Following up on leads generated from trade shows, events, or referrals.

Entering orders into the system and coordinating with the logistics team for prompt delivery.

Responding to customer inquiries about wine characteristics, food pairing, and availability.
